Net lights are the easiest way to quickly and tastefully light up your hedges and shrubs for the Holidays. In fact, if your favorite team's colors are a combination of white, blue, red or green, you could use sets of net lights to set off your house during playoffs or big games.
Available in either traditional incandescent or LED construction, net lights are available all year online. They commonly measure 4x6 feet and the bulbs are usually 3-4 inches apart depending on the set's specifications. That gives you a wondrous 150 mini lights work with per set. The sets are usually wired with male and female connectors and with the conventional sets you can connect up to 3 in series per the Underwriter's Laboratory guidelines.
The most common color purchased each season is clear or white (either warm or cool for LED) followed by multi. Combining the net lights with mini lights in the same, different, or complementary colors is a great way to decorate for Christmas. You can also outline your home or business with traditional C7 or C9 bulb and cord sets - as long as the colors blend, the styles will work great together.
One thing to consider is, "What if I don't care for neat and orderly rows of lights?". Perhaps you are a rebel when it comes to lighting or you just like to go over the top with most things that you do. A simple solution to this problem is to lay down one net of lights and then throw on another offset by a couple of inches diagonally on the hedges. With one flick of the wrist you will have doubled the number of mini lights in 24 square feet and totally obscured the grid-like pattern.
So, whether you like them neat or want to live on the edge and go random in your design, save time this Christmas and pick up some net lights in your favorite colors. Use that time wisely to think of how you are going to tell Crazy Uncle Verne to stay in a hotel this year.
